Martha’s Vineyard

We spent Monday 24th July sitting on the boat in the howling wind and the torrential rain.  It was cold and wet, and very windy but we felt quite safe anchored in the shelter of Lagoon Pond.

The next day the wind had eased somewhat and the rain had stopped although it was still dull and overcast and quite cold.  We contacted the small marina in the corner of the lagoon to ask permission to use their dinghy dock so we could walk in to town.

The town of Vineyard Haven is quite small, with lots of tourist type shops, restaurants, a supermarket and expensive clothing stores.  We went to the Black Dog tavern to have a drink, but the town is semi-dry which means that restaurants that do serve alcohol can only do so if you have food as well, so we had a “small” sandwich between us with our beer.

Did some shopping, got a bus timetable and will go to other parts of the island tomorrow on the bus.

We'll come back this evening and have a meal in the Black Dog tavern.
