Cuttyhunk Island 20^th – 23^rd July 2017

Left Block Island just before 09.00; quite a few boats leaving today. Should have gone yesterday when winds were force 4! Managed to sail for about an hour altogether.

Arrived in Cuttyhunk at 15.00 and managed to find the last town mooring ball.  Seems you need to get in early if you want to definitely find somewhere.  There is a small anchorage area in the north east of the anchorage. The mooring balls are quite tightly packed in here, but enough room to swing ok.

Cuttyhunk is one of the Elizabeth Islands.  It is a small island, very few cars, but lots of golf carts but non for rent.  There are only about 600 permanent residents, but lots of visitors in the summer.

The small town has a few restaurants that are all closed by 20.00, but the cafe on the fishermen’s dock will cook lobster if you order by 17.00, plus there is a shack on the dock that has steamed clams and lobster but that also closes at 20.00.  There is no bar and there is no alcohol for sale in the small grocery store. There is also the Raw Bar boat that goes around the anchorage at 18.00 selling chowder, oysters and clams on the shell. We sampled the chowder and the clams and they were delicious.

On Saturday morning we walked up to the Fishermans Club hotel/restaurant for breakfast, and then tried to walk off all the calories by walking a good part of the island.

We had intended to stay 4 nights but the weather on Monday is windy from the wrong direction and very wet so we will move on to Martha’s Vineyard on Sunday instead.
