The Story So Far...

We arrived back in Grenada about 10 days ago, being pleased that we got an upgrade to World Traveller Plus on BA for such a long flight – 11 hours on the plane as it goes via St Lucia.

We spent the first few days in Cool Runnings apartments until the boat went back in the water. Our first day in the boat yard was frustrating as the antifouling had not been finished or the hull polished and it rained all day so no work could be done.  The yard reassured us that the following day (Friday) everything would be finished so we could be launched on Monday.

We launched on Monday with everything finished as promised and we motored round to Port Louis marina at St Georges to put the sails on, restock the stores, and buy any bits and pieces we needed. We also had our batteries tested and have been advised to get a new starter battery and 2 service batteries in Antigua before we start crossing the Bahamas.  We have 7 batteries in total.  More expense!

We left Grenada on Saturday morning and sailed to Carriacou to check out and spend the night.  Not a pleasant sail as it was a beat into the wind.  We anchored in Tyrell bay and checked out; fortunately catching the immigration/customs man before he went off duty.

After a very windy night, we set off at 07.30 for the 35-40 miles to Bequia. Probably our favourite Caribbean island.  We motored for the first couple of hours as we were heading straight in to the wind, then we managed to have a good sail across from Union island to Bequia.  We’re now tied up on a buoy in Admiralty bay – still quite windy but less showery than in Grenada.  We were pleased to have a heavy shower overnight as it washed all the salt off the boat.

Tomorrow we head up to Rodney Bay, St Lucia, where we will probably spend a few days before continuing north.
