Saturday 24th May – Thursday 29th May

Unfortunately not good news about the dinghy; instead of oil in the gear box we have water as the seals have leaked so we need new parts.  The engine is a Suzuki and there are no agents in the Caribbean so we will have to bring the parts out in November.  Meanwhile we will have to row or paddle the dinghy as long as the wind isn’t too strong!

We left Bequia and had a good sail to Chatham bay on Union island to meet up with Brian and Barbara on Red Shoes.  We had not been to this bay before – it is a big bay on the west side of the island. There are a few restaurants on the beach, one with a dinghy dock.  The road connecting Chatham with the rest of the island is at the top of a steepish track leading up from the beach.

Red Shoes were already anchored so we anchored close by and they came over to say “Hi” and invite us for drinks and dinner. The last time we had met was in south west Sardinia 2 years ago – so a bit if catching up to do.

Red Shoes then became the taxi service taking us to and fro between boats for sundowners, and to the shore to explore.  We did longish walks – one to Ashton and the other to Clifton and the airport to check out.  We took the easy way back and got a taxi while Brian and Barbara used their bicycles.

After 5 days in Chatham we then moved on to the next island – Tyrrel Bay on Carriacou, part of Grenada.
