We alternated between three anchorages during our two weeks here. The one
opposite Fayaoue, the capital (village) was purely practical for food stock up
and once to get out of a heavy swell during a spell of wind and rain. As much as
we enjoy the sun, we do also appreciate the rain, which is part of the tropical
climate, especially as we are just in the Convergence Zone.
Topping up our water tanks and doing some laundry are the positive outcomes
during these spells, as well as keeping up with jobs inside and reading. It’s
not cold and we still enjoyed a swim, even if the sky was grey, the sea stayed
clear and kept some of it’s mesmerising turquoise blue!
This anchorage here is just off the hotel “Paradis d’Ouvea” a perfect get
away for people who enjoy a desert island experience in the comfort and luxury
of a very nice hotel.
Great for us for a change to be able to go ashore, use internet and some of
their facilities and enjoy a glass of wine, while watching the sun go
down.
Here can be found some of the
most dramatic and impressive sand cliffs we have ever seen...
...especially from the perspective of a sand fly!
These cuttlefish/Squid (not quite sure) did a very entertaining dance
around Kahia and down our anchor chain.
The most crowded at anchor here: Kahia, Remedy (NZ) and Kilany (USA)
opposite Hotel Paradis D’Ouvea
