Sculpture overlooking the anchorage in Taiohae Bay,

A large bay with loads of space and about 20-30 yachts anchored there.

July is the month of big celebrations and we went out to dinner with  anumber of other cruisers on the first night. There was the choosing of the’Mini Prince and Princess and their retinue’ (a bit like a minor Miss World competition for young girls and boys) and some amazing song and  dance from a local group. Probably the winners from last year. Amazing how much noise five women can produce.

The town has a ‘Cathedral’

from which you can look out into the bay.

A short walk from town there is an archaeological site which has had some reconstruction work carried out to show how a village would have been, but it has not ben kept clear and the jungle is taking over again . As you wander through the undergrowth you find Tiki’s and huts.
