We left Contadora in the Las Perlas islands yesterday morning to make the best of the wind. Its forecast Northerly for two days but getting light then going W or SW still very light. We have about 600 miles to Puerto Amistad in Baie de Caraques so are heading out to Isla Malpelo then turning southeast.
Once we were clear of the Perlas islands the wind improved and we had a cracking sail till dark with main and cruising chute. Then the wind picked up we decreased sail to two reef main and reefed Genoa.
Phil saw one whale dead ahead of us yesterday afternoon and overnight a pod of dolphins swam alongside us for some time, all you could see was their phosphorescence as they moved around, like a magical light show in the water.
This morning we are back to cruising chute with only 5 knots of wind but still moving in the right direction. 110 miles in the last 23 hours.
