Over 1000 miles into the 3000+ mile journey and we have a destination, of the Marquesas, decided largely on the comfort factor when sailing with big ocean swell in the SE trade winds and heading westward.

So far suicidal squid leaping on board during the night have proved tantalising as bait for mahi mahi with fresh catches most days and subsequently another quest for interesting recipes that can be cooked while bouncing without loss of life or limb (preferably with the additional ingredient of banana). The aroma of banana surrounds us - banana cake, banana bread, banana splits (just split, no ice cream), banana curry, banana fricassee, stuffed banana, fried banana and baked. The temptation to buy that large and tropical looking bunch of bananas (just $2, who could resist) was just too much as we left with enough to feed a rather large troop of banana eating monkeys for quite a long time. Bill is doing his best to remain positive. Happily we also have plantain.
