15/1/2014 - Guadaloupe to Antigua

An early start for the forty or so miles to Antigua, the wind was light and flukey as we left the north of Guadaloupe, but once out of the lee of the island the wind became more constant and we could sail at a reasonable speed through the strong swell coming in from the Atlantic.  The sun was hot, and we had a fabulous sail to Antigua with the view of Montserrat on the horizon with its resident cloud hovering above the volcano.

We arrived in English Harbour late afternoon, anchoring in the small bay behind a reef in the entrance to the harbour.  As it was Mum’s last night on board before her flight home, we booked a table at Harrisons overlooking the harbour and returned in our glad rags that evening for a superb meal.

After checking in first thing with Customs & Immigration, we followed the trail around the harbour to the fort on the headland at the entrance to the bay, what a beautiful harbour this is and so much history to absorb.  Mum reluctantly caught her taxi to the airport after lunch, a sad farewell as we have had so much fun and seen so much in the last two weeks and it is always so lovely to share our new way of life with her.

We had a message that Pannikin had also arrived on the Island, in Falmouth Harbour around the corner, so we met up with Steve and Angela for a few cold beers in the afternoon, well it was happy hour after all and we needed to get out of the rain!
