It's been happening for a couple of months now.. wherever we are, James Packer, the Australian media magnate, son of late Kerry Packer's ship, the Arctic P turns up. It was anchored not far away from us in Antigua. Then Mariah Carey hit our beach on Boxing Day.... I know; I thought they'd split up too! The never-ending gossip circle of the Caribbean… it’s just exhausting.

The Arctic P has been anchored in the channel between Peter Island and nearby Norman 'Treasure’ Island since we've been at Key Point. It's a distinctive-looking vessel; not the usual Imperial Star Ship Destroyer, super yacht look. Black with Mickey Mouse satellite 'ears', she was originally built as a extreme conditions salvage tug. Launched in 1969, she participated in the rescue of the Antarctic commercial vessel, Lindblad Explorer before being converted to a private yacht in 1993. Thank you, Wilkipedia.. 

So when she turned up at Key Point, we were kind of used to her and didn't pay her much mind. Most of the time, these guys aren't even on their boats. We imagined she was just killing time, maybe her crew were chillaxing before the next pick-up.. until we came back to our anchorage from the Rhone expotition and saw that we had company. A tall man was paddle-boarding around the bay... with a tender following him at a discrete distance. Lu and the Cap got the monocular out. 'That looks like James Packer!' They took turns squinting through their spy-glass. 'He's ripped,' the Captain observed. 'Doesn't he go anywhere without his staff?' Lulu wondered. Delphine of course was much too high-brow for this conversation and disappeared downstairs. That is, until I dragged her out for a swim. It was like ripping an mole out of her hole! 

We got in the water just as the Packer-looking gentleman was re-boarding his ride home. Lu and the Cap were staring bare-faced at this point. A few moments later, they got in the water too. With news. 'Guess what he said?!' they both squealed. 'He was looking right at Quest when he said, “I’d love to be able to sail and do what they’re doing." He wants our life! All the money in the world and he wants what we have.' I stared over at the departing dinghy going towards the Arctic P. James Packer wants our life? Someone call Mariah.
