Hi everybody,

169 nm to go! And yet... the focus on numbers, the speed, the ave speed, the distance, etc etc is getting a little blurry. Of course, I don't forget the feeling of 'Why on Earth did we bring our kids into the middle of a huge ocean again?' but the air is balmy now even at night and the ocean has begun to sparkle again with little pinpricks of dinoflagellate light mirroring the stars. The conditions today have been perfect for sailing too, so when the Captain asked me earlier whether I will finally stop telling people I'm a terrible sailor now, the truth is I probably won't (please don't tell him though:) but I can say that I get it; the thrill of wind against cloth, the slicing of water without propellor, turning the engine on after the wind died.. :)

Today we spoiled the comfy pillow a little, gave her a sea shower with real doggy shampoo and fluffed her curls so she'd convince any customs official to let her in with her easy-going shagginess. She responded by shooting to the bow of the boat when no one was looking and performing all her necessary ablutions, almost delivering them right through the front cabin hatch. I suppose one might think after the last few weeks, we would deserve this kind of gift! The girls have been playing a game with her too where they all bare their teeth at each other and Fin seems to be laughing the hardest, her black and pink marbled gums on show, only stopping to sneeze before everyone catches their breath and starts again.

Things heard recently on Quest:
Hannah: 'I wonder how many Portuguese Water Dogs have crossed the Atlantic?'
John: 'Don't ask Fin. She'd tell them not to bother.'
Lulu: 'Who's the best girl in the world?'
Delphine: 'Can we shave her dreadlocks? They make me feel a bit sick.'
Jack: 'Only if we can shave yours. (Pause) Ouch!'

Love from Quest and her crew xx
