Below is a picture and a photo of Dad in front of a Dragon Tree; a native plant important when people first came to Madeira and Porto Santo, in the 15th and 16th centuries. It was used for dyeing clothes red and the resin of the tree is called Dragon’s Blood. They used it especially in Italy. It was weird too because Delphine was just reading a Biff and Chip book called The Dragon Tree. That was actually about dragons.

You can see the square in Porto Santo is covered with flowers and is really pretty. In the middle of the square they have a blocked off hole where people used to hide when pirates arrived. It’s ok, Lulu the pirate is here!
