Our third night away was spent in St Lucia. You are
warned to take care at night in case you meet a hippopotamus in the street on
your walk home. They come out of the river at night to graze on front
lawns and often take an amble along the main street. We were relieved to
get home without meeting one but then typically felt let down as we hadn’t
experienced this challenge. However, the next morning we took a river trip
and were delighted and thrilled with the variety and diversity of both flora and
fauna. A fine lunch was later had at the Ski Boat Club which thankfully
has now changed to the Deep Sea Angling Club; I can’t imagine water skiing in
crocodile and hippo infested waters, and after a leisurely stroll along a board
walk to the Indian Ocean we took ourselves home to our boats.
This little green frog was sitting on our car just as we
started for our river trip.
A hippo. Was this a yawn or something worse?
Otherwise getting a good shot of a hippo was not so easy. They kept
ducking.
A goliath heron
Not our favourite animal but an impressive crocodile.
African fish-eagle perched high on a tree surveying.
And just a nice shot. Over those sand dunes is the
Indian Ocean.
