A Coruna still

Friday came and went, but no batteries.  It will be Monday at the earliest that they will arrive now, so we are stuck in La Coruna for a few more days.  Managed a couple of minor “ARC” jobs which needed to be done.  Then went to the market.  We decided fish was on the menu for tonight, but trying to decipher which fish was which proved a problem.  Our little dictionary was pressed into service, but we decided no to hake or monkfish, and eventually settled on sea bream.  Absolutely fresh and prepared for us on the spot.  Descaled, gutted, beheaded and filleted in as long as it takes to read this.  Quite amazing.

Managed to include the castle and the Tower of Hercules in our sightseeing.  Castle famous for resisting Sir Francis Drake, locals were led by Maria Pita who has a statue in the square in front of the Town Hall.  The Tower of Hercules was initially built by the Romans and has served as either an observation tower or lighthouse since then.  A rather chequered history, having  been vandalised and rebuilt several times over the years.  Is twinned with Dover Castle, as they are the only two lighthouses mentioned, according to the blurb on site, in Mappa Mundi.  A very worthwhile visit, but windy.
