Having got a result with the oven yesterday it was time to resolve the lack of wind instrument readings.  I checked the wiring at the base of the mast but nothing seemed amiss.  It couldn't be put it off any longer - it needed a trip up the mast.  This is not my favourite place (Happy Birthday Bob) and it is a lot of hard work for Lin who has to winch me up in a 'Bosun's Chair'.

I detached the wind indicator carefully which was nerve wracking in case I dropped it from this great height (19 meteres up).  Anyway, the attachment seemed fine and afterwards we found that, sure enough, the readings were still blank.  Time to get the electrician back so we called him to arrange for him to come to the boat later today.

We motored back to the anchorage off the Marina and I fetched 'Goekhan' in the dinghy.  He did various tests, confirmed there was an open circuit somewhere and found a break in one of the wires where it exits the foot of the mast above deck.  So the problem was not at the connections below deck or those at the masthead but in between!  He repaired the connection and insulated it.  Instrument readings back again!

Whilst we had Goekhan trapped on board we got him to try to resolve our Engine 'stop solenoid'.  We had to remove a fuel line and the throttle cable but he expanded the spring and we hope this will improve things for a while (the engine hasn't been switching off with the key when it should).  He also fitted some new cabin lights in the aft cabin which I had bought a year ago!

Here are a couple of pictures from up the mast:-

Apologies for the knee which was frantically gripping the mast:-

We were going to go ashore for a meal for my birthday but decided against it in the end.  We hadn't been to a supermarket for a few days so were low on fresh food.  So, Fray Bentos Steak and Kidney Pie it was then!  Actually it was lovely.
