Having arrived in Marmaris a over 4 weeks ago on 8 May we finally left the marina yesterday around 4.30pm.  Things had taken longer than usual because we had had the rigging replaced and had both been ill.  We managed to get lots of things done but even so we were itching to get moving.  We need to cross the whole of the Mediterranean this year and get to the Canary Islands by the end of September.

We intended just to sail the few miles across the bay to the anchorage off Marmaris town and test the rigging but after a short while we noticed that we had no readings from the wind instruments.  All other instruments were fine.  We decided to continue motoring instead.  This must be something to do with the mast being taken off and I suspected that I hadn't put the wind indicator back properly at the masthead.  This will need a trip up the mast.

I had managed yesterday to speak to 'Ersoy' who had serviced our oven last year (this is not easy as he has less English than I have Turkish).  We had not used the oven last year after he had reinstalled it and suspected the poor flame was something to do with the service.  I collected Ersoy from the 'Ataturk' dock in Marmaris and brought him back on board.  After dismantling various components and not getting anywhere I noticed that there is a small pinhead sized hole in the gas supply to the oven.  The pipework had been spray painted by Ersoy at the end of the service and it looked like the hole was partly covered with paint.  We opened the hole with a paper clip and tried the oven.  Voila!  Proper cooking type flames.
