There have been mixed reports about the provisioning facilities in Mindelo so we went into town this morning to explore whilst everything was open.  There are several small supermarkets which carry quite a lot of goods.  Nowhere near as good as the Canary Islands but much better than we expected.  A vists to several of them would be needed in order to get everything but we shouldn't starve!

There are also a lot of street vendors too and some of their fresh produce looked better than in the supermarkets.

The main fruit and vegetable market is housed in a typical tropical building - roofing ventilated at the eaves and ridge to let out the hot air:-

Not a bad selection:-

Lin in her element doing her 'market thing' with a lovely smiling vendor:-

There was a lot more buzz than yesterday as we strolled around the town:-

The People's Palace:-

Some of the vendors sold freshly landed fish.  Some are offered from wheelbarrows but these looked better:-

By the time we returned to the boat the Saharan dust and haze had really set in.  You could barely see across the bay.  This was taken at 5pm when the sun was still quite high - some of the abandoned ships are visible:-

During the afternoon we could hear lots of cheering.  We have since discovered this was because Cape Verde were playing football in the Africa Cup of Nations which explains why there were so many Cape Verde flags in town!  We thought it was in preparation for the Sao Vicente Carnival on 12 February.
