About 10.30 it was anchors aweigh for the short trip down the east coast of Lanzarote to Puerto Calero Marina.  We have been looking forward to coming here in our own boat since we visited the marina on a holiday in Lanzarote in the early '90's.  At that time the marina had only been open about 3 years and there was only one (very nice) place to eat and not much in the way of facilities beyond the pontoons themselves.  But the shelter was good.

The marina has been extended in recent years and there are now shops and restuarants galore.  The shops are the typical marina fare - small units each selling different brands of clothes at inflated prices, all bereft of customers.  There isn't enough traffic from boat owners to make them viable and so often, there isn't a reason why non boat users would come to the marina.

Overall we were disappointed with Puerto Calero.  The pontoons are very short and unstable (about half of the length of the boat) and getting a bit tired and it was difficult to arrange any work to be done on the boat.  The first charge was €53 a night until I said 'it can't be'.  This was rapidly reduced to a lower size band of €41 which was still too much for the facilities and atmosphere.  We made enquiries about staying for 15 days when Mon and Nev come to Lanzarote and were told we would have to be charged the 'correct'  size band for our boat which would put the price back to €53, less a 15 day discount of 10%.  We hope Marina Rubicon will be better.
