Wood for New Table

We mentioned that we had a new table made.  James at Southwest Shipwrights suggested we come over to his new premises near Lagos and choose the wood which we did.  He took us through several mahogany samples and shaved them so we can see the grain.  Apparently most people go for very little graining nowadays but Lin and I both agreed with James that more wood with more flare in the grain was more attractive.
 
We ended up choosing from these 'bits of stick' (Reilly family terminology):-

All we had to do was wait for James to 'knock up the table', which he did in a week.
