The wind gradually worked its way round a good slice of the compass last night.  I was woken every couple of hours by a change in movement of the boat, got dressed and changed our heading relative to the wind and the set of the sails.

This pattern of work in the night is (delightfully in a way) rather reminiscent of being a junior many years ago, when the contracted hours were very different to those of today, and night work in addition to day work was the norm.  The oddly comforting thing is that it's not a stress to do again, what you did years ago.

A substantial bit of the sailing this year has been downwind, compared to quite a lot of upwind sailing on the way over last year. Rolling around more, compared to upwind work, is a down side to this. The upside is periods when the waves roll in from behind at a speed just a little greater than the boat speed.  When this happens the boat gets lifted by each wave and then surfs down the face of the wave in a delicious slide. There was a nice bit of that last night.
