Today is our 29th day afloat. We have seen a fair few vessels by this point (mostly in the last week or so) but yesterday evening we saw out first sail. Clearly, someone else is as mad as we are! Unfortunately we hit a patch of fast water (probably gulf stream current) and left the sail behind not long after, but it was good to see a fellow yachtie, even if only from 6 miles away.

As the day drew to a close, our wind died, as it has been doing on and off for a few days now. Anxious not to lose time, we put on the engine and motored until about midday today, when we got a few breaths of wind. We therefore killed the engine, lifted the cruising chute once more which thankfully was enough to get us moving. The wind has been slowly building all day and about half an hour ago we packed up the cruising chute and put up plain sail. now bombing along at 5 knots on a close reach.

Daddy has been going on for years and years about how he’d like to catch a tuna. He has therefore been trailing a line out the back of the boat for almost a week now, but without success. When we came to put away the sails during the night I noticed that the line was tighter than it has been previously. I pulled it in to have a look, and lo and behold, what should I find at the end of the line but a 40cm long tuna!! A great surprise to us both. We put it in a bucket of sea water over night and dealt with it this morning. Had some lovely tuna steaks for lunch and will make run down (a kind of fish curry) for dinner tonight. yummy!
