On Thursday we spent a lazy day at Porto Cultural Cetate as guests of
Mircea Dinescu and his family. Mircea is a famous Poet and Intellectual
who was under house arrest for twelve months during the Ceausescu
dictatorship. He has written many books of poems,is a political commentator
and chef.Today he runs the Cultural centre and has a vineyard producing
about 1 million bottles of excellent wines. The family welcomed us with
open arms and wined and dined us par excellence. Sergiu took us on a
conducted tour around the vineyard. We plugged in to the
electricity, topped up with water, and did a number of washes in the
laundry. They refused to accept any money. If any of you are reading the
diary we say thank you for your friendship and hospitality.
At six am Friday we reluctantly set off and travelled 181 km to Corabia
which is at km b630. We leave the Danube At Cernedova km 300 so only 330
km to go.
We tied up alongside a rusty old cruise boat tied to a pontoon. It
belonged to the Hotel Sucidava. The Border Police checked us in and we
hooked up to electricity and filled the water tank. Restaurant and showers
and a peaceful night.
Tomorrow we go to Giurgio.
