May 25th Saturday Vienna
Six weeks on the Greylag boat and we are about to set off on our next
stage of the journey into the x eastern block. We had a great day
yesterday with Susie as our guide, we did the coffee house and cake, glass
of wine and beer later, and a whistle stop walk around all the main
sights. She will have to go into business, as a guide. Vienna is very well
organized , the underground is all colour coded which makes it very easy
to follow, the rules of how to behave on the train are all printed on
large posters , you must behave! It feels a very conservative society,
though we did see a different side in the beer garden later that night.
Vienna has some wonderful majestic buildings, it is certainly a place to
see.Susie left us at the tourist tram , which took us round the town, a
great way to see a city if you are short of time.
Things disintegrated after she had gone we ended up in a beer garden
eating a large pork knuckle between three , which we did not finish,
followed by large frothy beers( just the one as Dave say's) we were
actually in a large funfair park , with lots of killer rides. Nick
chickened out but Captain Mannering, and I braved the water dive! Never
again , but then we all say that!
Well we thought the last lock was behind us, but having bought the new
guides we see that is not the case! This one is called the Gabikovo. On
the Slovakian German border, which apparently should be entered when not
windy. Well today is really windy and these locks are the size of hydro-
electric schemes. Wish us well !
Along this journey we have been following a book, called ( Jack de Crow)
he did the journey in a 14 foot mirror dingy , amazing!
Well here we go we are off again.!
