6 locks and 55 km today.Progress up the Main river is painfully slow even
though the current is minimal.the traffic is like the M1 at rush hour and
the skills of the Barge skippers manoeuvring 250 metre barges along the
narrow winding river is unbelievable, but they slow us down and we have to
wait to get through the locks.oh we'll only 100 km to go and eleven locks!

Well here is the useless chat as our honoured skippers call it! you can
imagine what it's like living in 10metres with, uncle Bulgaria, and mr
Mannering! Nick is now two tunnel nick, plus a grounding , Dave is mr
Mannering, or Captain Hook! and of course I am perfect. No I now answer to
anything Gloria, Flossie, bossy! They call me perfect when dinner is being
served, or our lunch time soup kitchen is on the go!
Dave is constantly looking for a washing machine,or shower , nick and
I just want a bar! Any one who has lived on a boat will know you have
no privacy! all manner of bodily functions are discussed! (Have you
been no 2 or 1) leave it as you found it! Etc etc. Nick doesn't like
to shower too often in case it wears his skin away! I have told him
its a bit late for that.
We are finding the locks hard going, it takes at least an hour to go
through, and commercial barges have the right of way. The weather
has been awful, no fun standing holding ropes in a 23 metre lock
with the rain pouring down.we have done 6 locks today , 55km and we
are now in a Yacht club in a very lovely place called Osgenfurt. We
set off at 6.am this morning, and it has been slow, we all felt a
bit fed up. But we have been into town, and had a beer and the world
is looking better.Onward and upward, tomorrow could be wonderful for
me and the boys.
