Martyn's magic with
the lures has finally come good and we caught our second dorado which is a good
size and will provide an excellent supper this evening. It has made about a
dozen good size steaks which the skipper is having hallucinations about
pan-frying with garlic and a little ginger. We have managed to keep this one's tail,
so now the trophy collection has begun!
You would all be
surprised at the range and quality of meals that the crew manage to create in
less than ideal conditions when the boat is rocking and rolling, with whatever
provisions are available - Andrew is actually preparing an apple crumble
for pudding (I hope he's washed his hands) as I write this and he is
planning to top a fantastic curry last night!!
We had our first
flying fish on deck this morning - amazing little things that fly a few feet
above the surface for amazing distances - I think the fact that they are being
chased by tuna, intent on enjoying them for supper encourages them
along.

Life on board is
pretty well organised now, with the watch system working well. We haven't seen
any other yachts now for about three days, so it is always nice to have a chat
with others on the radio to discuss progress and lie about our
fishing
exploits! The radio is also a great comfort from the safety point of view - a
yacht was dismasted some way ahead of us during the night, but the combined
efforts of the ARC fleet with radio communications will make sure that
they are ok, and rendezvous will be made in mid ocean to pass them diesel so
that they can motor the rest of the way to St Lucia. Through the night there are
calls from those on the night watch looking for something to do - Andrew is
there exchanging information to help the long hours pass reminiscing about his
experiences as a radio ham.
Any of you who were
lucky enough to see the boats in Las Palmas will remember the beautiful Swan -
Fantasticaaaa. We hear that she only has about another six hundred miles to go.
Dream on Sally!!!
Pascal's family have
thoughtfully prepared him for the trip with an advent calendar. We enjoy
hearing the daily message and watch him scraping out the melted
chocolate!
Finally, we
understand that the weather in dear old blighty is less than good at the moment
- our thoughts are with you as we move along briskly under blue skies and
sunshine - heh its a tough life.
All is well with GE.
Love to all.
