It was 3 hour motor to Vineyard Haven on Martha’s Vineyard the following morning and we passed the rural shores of the other Elizabeth Islands with their fields, farmhouses and grazing horned cattle.  The seas here are obviously rich in fish with lots of diving terns and large commercial fishing vessels around.

Vineyard Haven on Saturday morning was extremely lively with so many different boats coming and going and we were lucky to get a buoy in the midst of the mooring field surrounded by beautiful old wooden boats.  The visit of an old three masted whaling ship also added to the atmosphere and drew the crowds.  In the evening we ate at the popular “Black Dog Tavern “ and tried the “quahog” chowder, “steamers” and “littlenecks”, all types of local shellfish.  Martha’s Vineyard is a big island and we only had a brief flavour of the place at this one spot so we may return later in the year.
