Porto Massimo

As so often after strong winds, we barely had enough breeze to get going the next day, although we did actually get an hour’s sailing in the morning – trying to sail close to the light NE wind.  We anchored for a long lunch stop at Isola Santa Maria in crystal clear emerald/turquoise waters.  We felt we could have been in the south seas! After lunch all but D rowed ashore and had a swim off the beach and walk over the headland with fabulous views back over the bay and the anchored yachts.  We then took advantage of the wind that had come up to blow us down to the mooring we had chosen on the other side of La Maddalena island.  We were infuriated to be told that the bay had only private moorings and no anchoring by a couple of blokes in a rib – we were sure they were a pair of chancers but we lacked the language to argue and had to move on.  Second choice was Porto Massimo, more exposed to the swell and less picturesque.  Even here someone tried to tell us the moorings were private, but relented when he saw the park permit that we had paid for!
