Corinth

The strong winds have now passed leaving just very cold air and snow on the hills and mountains wherever you look.  We motored away from Aegina with the remains of the wind on the nose (of course) but in glorious sunshine and cloudless skies.  Our goal was the next significant landmark on our return trip westwards, the Corinth Canal. It was very quiet when we arrived at the control point for entry to the canal, but we still had to wait 2 hours before we were allowed to go through.  In that time only one boat made the transit!   It cost us €186 for the 30 minute passage, which was no surprise as we knew it was renowned as having the highest charges of any canal anywhere.  The sight is quite spectacular however, with sheer cut rock faces looming 90m into the sky.  Less than an hour later we were berthed in Corinth harbour and looking forward to visiting the sight of ancient Corinth (infamous in its day for its loose-living lifestyle).
