Title: Marmaris -Turkey

So we are officially in Turkey for a few weeks.  Feeling somewhat poorer as it happens – we had to stay a night in the most expensive marina we’ve yet visited in order to clear into the country, which also cost an arm & a leg.  We are spending a few nights in marinas in order to get some prices for work that needs doing on the boat, but can’t wait to head off south to some of the glorious spots on the “Turquoise Coast” before returning to Greece later in the autumn.  Marmaris is a very down market tourist town, so not a very good introduction to Turkey, but we had to arrive in an official entry port.  It is in a beautiful and very large bay though, with steep pine covered hillsides which give it a very different feel from the brown Greek islands nearby.  It is the bay in which Suleyman assembled his fleet of 200,000 men in 1522 to attack the Knights of St John in Rhodes where we have just come from!
