Title: Symi

Every island we visit in Greece has its own distinctive feel and Symi was no exception.  It is a very attractive town of colourful mansions rising up from the large harbour.  The island made its wealth in the 19th century from ship building and sponge diving and used to be more populous and important than Rhodes.  The harbour was very busy and places on the quay filled up rapidly during the afternoon.  It was entertaining to sit on the foredeck (with a beer) and watch the anchoring and chain problems of various entangled boats, though not so funny it happens to you, needless to say.
