Wow!  The scenery certainly lived up to expectations, even if the “marina” and town were a bit tacky.  This is one of the most famous Greek islands because it is the caldera of a giant volcano which erupted around 1650BC and accelerated the end of the Minoan civilisation.  Apparently it could go again one day and that thought adds to the atmosphere as you sail across the enormous crater!  We stocked up on the local Santorini white wine whilst here as the volcanic soils make for good growing conditions even if the grape vines are strange, stunted, almost curly little plants.
