Isebela is a small 10 mile island which was an ancient volcano and has a
lake in the old crater you will see in the photos. Today it is a bird
sanctuary for Frigate and Booby birds, we arrived in the breading season and
we wet close to chicks. There is a fishing shanty town on the island for the
fish men from San Blas. The Island is 35 miles off the coast, and has also
very clear water, the anchorages are very exposed, and rocky bottoms which
make it interesting for anchoring many people get their anchors stuck.
We arrived very early in the morning anchoring in the East Anchorage behind
these pillars of twisted rock (see photos), in 20 feet finding some rare
sand. We then went ashore and explored the birds and played in the water,
snorkeling and seeing some great fish. We stayed one night and had great
whale shows.
