After a good sleep in a classical Spanish hotel, windows are so close to the
floor Sean can step through them, but a good nights sleep in the cool air at
1500 m.
Coming out on the cobble streets, you look along the low lying buildings and
up into the green volcanoes rising above us, shrouded in mist/ and clouds.
We were trying to get directions to the JADE factory, we wanted to take Sean
through the stages of evolution from a rare rock to ready to be mounted in
jewelry, he enjoyed it. I was happy to occupy Alex, as we found a really
good coffee shop in the adjacent court yard, getting a hot chocolate for
Alex. Like when we down South in Santiago good coffee shops with the smell
of ground coffee roasting, wafting out into the court yard it is so
inviting. Especially as we started to get a drizzle and it reminded us of
Seattle, San Fran and it is the atmosphere which pulls you in.
The boys and I then decided to take on the main plaza which the two of then
raced around, and we should look at renting them out as so many people
stopped us and asked for pictures with the blond boys, it is funny to see
how the two of them just take this in their stride now. With the local music
playing by a set of locals under the eaves of an old bank, the street came
alive with dancing and people out for their Saturday strolls.
We are treating this as another field trip for the boys, to discover new
places, and ask questions, a change from the boat and pool, and routine back
in the estuary.
Had to buy a new phone today as my old one eventually just would not boot
up, always interesting finding a phone that has been unlocked for use
outside the local service providers, but found one, and it is good to have
this as it can be used anywhere in the world with a SIM card. But it is
strange how comfortable we have become in getting things done, 8 months ago
it was a challenge today it is just a part of the daily life. Like we
arranged a shuttle to get up to Lake Atitlan on Monday morning, in time for
Spanish school in the afternoon.
You can see in the photos are of around the main plaza in Antigua.
This is a nice town lost in a valley and time, has the potential of Cusco
but not as touristy yet but working on it.
Found what looks like a great Italian place for dinner, going out
investigate but combined with Chilean wine (which we now know) provides us
with this months decadence which you must spoil yourself too every so often.
