Hi all,

We are now into day 5 of the 700 mile leg from St. Helena to Ascension. Unfortunately, lower than expected trade winds have slowed us down and we will not make landfall before end of day Saturday. So after just passing the island we will take a beam reach out to nowhere and back to use up a few hours and then get to the anchorage by daybreak.

Unlike St Helena which had mooring buoys, we have to anchor at Ascension and it is supposed to be a bit of a tricky anchoring place with lots of old chains and things fouling the anchorage. Guess they have had many wrecks of old wooden square riggers there over the years. We will have to be careful to not snag some of that crap with our anchor.

Chris will be leaving us in Ascension to return to Australia and Scott will be coming in from Seattle for the long leg up to Gibraltar with Kev and me. I am truly lucky to have such good buddies traveling miles over the past several years to help me out on Galatea - a big thank you to you both, and to Bronwyn and Lynn for letting them take the tome away.

Otherwise an uneventful, downwind, wing-on-wing passage from St. Helena. We have not seen a single vessel since St Helena and only one ship since leaving Cape Town, almost a month ago!!

Next update after arriving in Ascension.

Neil, Chris and Kev
