Today’s journey takes us from the bottom to almost the top of Cape Canaveral along the Indian River, a wide open, and yes, shallow waterway.
6 Bridges today - 1 x swing, 1 x bascule and 4 x fixed 65’ - but this bridge caught us off guard. the barge is doing maintenance directly under the bridge in the channel between the fenders. the top of the bridge was wrapped in canvas reducing the gap for us to get through to not very much! We called the maintenance crew 4 or 5 times as we approached to ask how wide the ‘gap’ was - no answer, so approaching very cautiously we edged our way through with a couple of feet either side. After we were through we saw people on the barge but no-one was taking any notice of us.

The main reason we wanted to be here at 10.30am on the 24th June 2016 was to watch a rocket launch. It had been delayed twice and we were hoping that it would be launched today. The coast guard had been on the radio warning people that the exclusion zone out to sea was in effect so not vessels were to be in the area (we heard a couple call the Port Captain to say they were in it and would not be able to evacuate it in time. Not sure what happened in their case). I was at the helm, camera in hand, having told John that if i saw anything he’d have to take the wheel so i could take photos. We weren’t sure exactly where it was going to be launched from but just kept a sweeping eye out to our starboard side. Well at exactly 10.30am i saw the flash and smoke, immediately left the wheel yelling for John and ran to the deck.
There it goes, heading up to deploy a satellite which will improve the US Navy’s ground troop communication.

Still going. The noise and vibration through the boat was amazing

The curly trail left behind. Wow was i excited.

Some interesting looking plant perhaps supplying the Space Program.

This overhead power line stretched across the wide expanse of water, and yes something else to go under. Some of these looked closer to 65’ that 85’. Not sure I’d like to hit one of these with the mast.

Took up a mooring at Titusville City Marina. Current and wind and we rode around/over the mooring until the wind settled.

Rain threatened

but went around us. Kennedy Space Centre visit the next day.
