we docked in Liberty Landing Marina which is in New Jersey and the other side of the Hudson River with the Manhattan skyline in front of us.We spent three days in Newport one of the highlights of the trip so far.A great Yachting centre where the Americas cup was kept in the New York Yacht Club from the year it was first contested. It was also a stop over for the Volvo Ocean rac and we were lucky to be there when the boats were there preparing to set off on the next leg across the Atlantic. Our engine problems had started and we spent time in Newport clearing all the pipe lines, changing fuel filters trying to stop air getting in and were hopeful that all would be well when we set off on our way to New York. No such luck! We spent hours with the engine stopping and having to bleed the filters. We tried everything but with no success. We sailed on to a mooring buoy in Port Jefferson and again in Port Washington. All the time things were getting worse and on the passage through the East River including Hells Gate where the current gets to six knots we could only run the engine for about two minutes before priming again. Great fun dodging all the traffic and avoiding the rocks. We made it on to the pontoon by drifting on and it was the best Rum and Coke I have ever had!

Today(Monday) we had a Yanmar Mechanic on board and we think have found the problem. There is a fault in the steel top which screws on to the filter and this was allowing air to get in. We have ordered a new one which arrives tomorrow and hopefully will be on our way to Annapolis early Wednesday morning. All being well we will be there Friday or Saturday.
