On Wednesday we heard that the new scanner had arrived in Aasiaat and decided to sail back to collect and fit it. this we duly did and it worked fine. We also got the latest ice report which told us that the coast of Baffin was still blocked as far down as Cape Dyer.We decided in view of the stubborn ice persistance and running short of time that we would give Baffin a miss and sail directly to St Johns in Newfoundland. We will stop over in Nuuk about 350 n miles from Aasiaat and then 900 n miles non stop to St Johns. As I write our position is 66:22N 054:01W and we should arrive in Nuuk around midday Saturday. We have been in fog all night but not seen any ice and as I start my morning watch the fog has cleared although it is a cold and overcast day.We hope weather permitting to be in St Johns by the 10th of August so Hans if you are reading this blog we may see you after all!  .
