Exploration of bays
Yesterday Friday another morning swim this time 10 times round the boat but water still only 15 degrees even so I do enjoy it and certainly wakes me up and so peaceful too.
After breakfast David and I went ashore to walk over the promontory to see what was on the other side and then round and back along the beach. Spring flowers were in abundance and we found a lovely beach and bay on the other side backed by pine trees and quite a few people on it too. By the time we got back it was lunchtime and after this we raised the anchor and set off round the promontory we’d walked over and then checked out a few anchorages along the way in case we want to come back this way. We had to follow the charts very carefully as a few islands but also mention of unmarked underwater rocks - in some ways these granite rocks and islands reminded us of sailing in The Baltic many years ago.
About 4 o’clock in the after noon we were at the last anchorage and all of a sudden the wind really blew up and rounding the last promontory before heading up into the marina at Olbia the water became quite rough and we had a strong tide against us. The journey up the estuary into Olbia seemed to take for ever, not very pretty and a a lot of buoys in the water which were ? Mussel or Oyster beds but not sure I’d want to eat them as Olbia quite an industrial port with a lot of big ferries and cargo ships going in and out.
We had to wait over half and hour outside the marina although we had phoned them and booked and said we’d be coming in at 6. The wind was still blowing quite hard but eventually they said we could come in and we were put alongside the pontoon outside the office . We were expecting to have to go backwards into a slot and were a little worried about doing that in the wind especially as out bow thruster is only working in one direction. So in the end all good. Not only close to office but showers too. Friendly marina staff and apart from the fact several charter boats were coming back yesterday which was the reason for the delay for us it’s very quiet.
Today has been spent shopping (15 minute walk to a Auchun large supermarket and we were allowed to bring the trolleys back and then thought would have to take them back but apparently they collect from the marina (good service) also cleaning the boat and doing the washing and getting rid of the recycling and rubbish. David has also
been trying to find out why the bow thruster is only working in one direction and he thinks it’s the control box so a new one will be ordered on Monday for hopefully the next visitors to bring out
Good drying weather
All jobs done, washing nearly dry, Hamish is due to leave us in half an hour. It has been great having him on board and it’s certainly helped my getting back into life on board easier as I was quite concerned re. my shoulder which is still healing from breaking it 15 weeks ago skiing!! all good and I even managed to throw some ropes yesterday!
We are quite big but Superyachts well!
Later tonight 2 friends arrive so more crew for next week and we think we shall head north towards the Maddalana Islands and hopefully zi shall get back to swimming and maybe the water will be warmer - here’s hoping
