Yesterday we left the marina having washed and scrubbed the decks of the boat - very dirty and filled the water tanks .

Not sure what happened here at entrance to marina. !!

Good sail down the last bit of the east coast and rounded the corner. All very low lying land and more populated than we had imagined it would be.

Not far round the corner we went into a large bay Porto Palo where we anchored. One side of the bay is a busy fishing port and the rest has the odd dwelling close to the shore and a sandy beach. We are not quite at the most southerly point of Sicily yet.

After a late lunch we launched the dinghy David and I got dropped off at one end of the beach to go for a walk and to swim back to the boat whilst Andrew went ashore to walk into the town in search of milk and one or two other things.

Good wAlk along the beach but distressing as to the amount of plastic scattered around. Good swim back to the boat too. Andrew had a long hot walk to the village and back and also hAd to wait for the supermarket to open at 5. Chance to have a beer.

By the time we were all back on board two other yachts had arrived. One was a CAT that we had met on the town quay in Siracusa . German and she was originally from Namibia 2 children 5 and 2 and a dog. They are travelling the Med heading to Greece next season and about to overwinter on the south coast of Sicily so the children can go to nursery . Lovely to have them on board and hear about their travels but they also told us of a scary encounter they had had at anchor with boat people. Fortunately with the dog and torches they scared them off.

This did make us think - check out where our powerful torches are kept and flare gun. Last night we locked the companionway. Between our anchorage and Africa due south Libyan coast just flat calm sea at present!!

Another beautiful morning, a good swim, breakfast and we now ready to head round the southerly tip to another anchorage . Not looking like a lot of wind out there so could be motoring but the batteries need charging ( need replacing this winter!!) and not far to go.
