The EJ's Voyage

Yes we are still in Ft Lauderdale! However, we have now decided to give up on the new fridge/freezer installation as we still haven't received the new freezer unit and Mike has re-commissioned the old system this morning. So we are just about ready to go and wait for a good weather window. It is pouring down with rain since this morning, a front is passing through, but hopefully Wednesday or Thursday should be good to leave for Key West.

We jumped in our hired car yesterday morning and drove the 120miles across the Floridian peninsula through the Everglades, an Indian Reservation and huge National Parks and got to Naples in the Gulf of Mexico. Naples is very chick and tranquil, quite different from the east side of Florida. We had a coffee on the patio of one of the coffee bars and took a stroll along the streets of the "historic" town. Loads of restaurant and up market shops and art galleries. The beach is huge with very white sand.

We then drove to Ft Myers following the road that goes through a key alongside the Gulf of Mexico, full of holiday resorts. Ft Myers is nothing much to write home about but we had a good fun lunch at Joe's Crab Shack and feasted on snow crab.

The weather was not great, overcast and a little cool but at least it remained dry all day.

Our phones will not be working in Cuba but hopefully the Iridium on board will in which case the email address to use will be falbala {CHANGE TO AT} mailasail {DOT} com.

Will try to post another update before we leave the USA.

Keep well.

love
Catherine (and Mike)
