We are nearly half way to Indonesia, the sun is out and we are going along very nicely at 7 knots, and all is well on board.

We left Thursday Island at 9.30 on Wednesday with a fairly strong tide to get us on our way at up to 8 knots. We put out our twin headsails, both poled out and we have run with this all the way so far, with the wind on our stern. We have had a couple of spells when the wind dropped and with tide against when we were doing 4.5 – 5.5 knots, but we are mostly at 6.5-8 knots. if we keep this up we will arrive on Sunday (a 4 day passage), which is really good for a 680 nm trip.

The only slight worry for us and all the other rally boats are the very long fishing nets, which are really difficult to see, particularly in the dark. We are taking a route which is used by cargo vessels, on the basis that the fishermen wont put out nets on commercial routes. We have only heard of a few problems for other boats so far.

I’ll do another brief blog when we arrive.

Cheers
