We are just starting Day 7 and we have ~275 NM to go to Opua. We are on schedule for arriving in the early hours on Sunday, but mmay slow down to arrive in daylight.
On Wednesday we were motoring along in very light winds when in late morning the wind picked and within a few minutes we had 22-28 knots of wind from the SE, with the occasional gust of 30 knts. Gradually the wind settled at about 22-24 knts, but the seas had built up to ~2m soit was a bit uncomfortable and of course we had to head SW once again. By late evening when the winds dropped again, we had, over the previous 2 days, been pushed about 80 nm further to the West than we had wanted.
On Thursday the wind dropped completely and we were motoring in flat calm seas, mostly in bright sunshine all day and had a very clear and calm night last night. We were able to point directly for Opua and have been making great progress, albeit under motor. The forecast is for the wind to be fairly light and behind us for the next 2 days, so we will be continuing to motor or motorsail all the way to Opua.
Every thing is fine on board, although the forward heads are playing up. We might add a couple of new toilets to the xmas list, which is getting pretty long, just the sort of thing a girl would appreciate from her husband, wouldn’t you agree.
Cheers, D&S
