We are now over half way from Minerva Reef to Opua in New Zealand, with just 400 miles to go, as of 10 am. We are motorsailing with very light winds from behind us. While we would prefer to be able to sail, it is so far a pretty gentle passage and we have had lots of blue skies and starry nights the past 2 days, so we can’t complain.
Our latest weather forecast indicates that we should have a good weather window through to Sunday and we should arrive before then. We are now quite a bit ahead of Sean & Sabine on Chevaldy as they have a much less powerful engine, but they should arrive before Sunday and within the weather window.
We had the company of some very large dolphins while I was writing the blog, but only for a brief time.
It is getting pretty chilly as we get further South, particularly at night. We have been looking out some warmer clothes and have been wearing full waterproofs at night. It is of course just spring in NZ and the yachts which have arrived have reported that it feels really cold, however I am sure we will acclimatise quickly and it will be heading into summer.
All is very well on board.
Cheers, David & Susan
