If we could not see Svartisen going to the bottom of Melfiord due to low lying clouds and fog we could very well see it from the archipelago when mountainwalking at Rödöya. Large parts of the glacier can be seen in the left part of the picture.
Still in the thirties Svartisen reached all way down into the sealevel but has since withdrawn and due to global warming glaciers in general over the world have been reduced 11% since the mid eighties.
