When coming back we had a drink preparing for dinner ashore. Meanwhile the superyacht Cygne (the Svan) from Malta came in darkness to berth on our port side. Still with heavy beamwinds they had serious problems to manouver and drifted down on to Dora Mac who was now squeezed as a "fender" between Cygne and CarlaMaria(another superyacht with British and Kiwi crew). Thanks to the heroic crew of CarlaMaria we all managed to fender up with their huge fenders but when Cygne shifted gear into ahead and pulled the throttle they crossed our mooringlines and brought Dora Mac with them. Subsequently there was a heavy pressure on our aft mooringlines and suddenly our aft port side pollard of thick stainless steel was ripped off,flew through the air and hit/broke the leg on one marina crew !!
With one marina crew down on the quay moaning in pain I left the turmoil on Dora Mac,saw to the marinacrew who appeared to have a fracture on the lower limb and an ambulance was ordered. Back on Dora Mac Cygne had finally passed over the bowlines and left port.
Bertha and Carolina left as planned, Dora Mac is being repaired, and we had a meeting with the captain of Cygne who agreed to take all economical responsability.
Waking up anchored in Favignana we could never have imagined that the same day our port side aft steel pollard would be ripped off braking the leg of one marina crew. No one in the "Diesel Duck Society" ever heard of this happening to a diesel duck and pictures were sent to Seahorse Marine and the builder Bill Kimley.
