Arriving Valetta August 6 departing around midnight August 18 we spent longer time in Malta then planned from the beginning. Coming from Turkey (over Greece were we spent less than a month) it was time to import Dora Mac into the EU meaning VAT was due. Since Malta and Cyprus has the lowest VAT in the EU (18%) Malta seemed as a good alternative. Through family contacts we got in touch with the lawyer Dr Anthony P. Farrugia who was willing to help us through the procedure. Not realising the magnitude of the whole thing, I thought we were in the end of it when arriving Malta. Allthough being a rather tedious procedure, Anthony Farrugia guided us through the whole network of authorities with patience, experience and knowledge. For this I´m very grateful and would without hesitation recommend Dr Farrugia to any other yachtie in the position of importing a yacht into the EU. Since importing a boat through Malta is favourable some other EU countries have protested and some case have even gone up to the EU court(Malta winning). For the time being many yachts continue to be imported through Malta and Cyprus and the VAT certificate issued is recognised all over the EU.
