Allthough equipped with a satellitetelephone,being able to communicate for free with fellow cruisers over oceans has been a great benefit.Grounding of the station is of paramount importance and we had to rebuild our grounding in 2005.We used our SSB radio very much all over the Pacific being connected to the "Panpacific Net" from Panama to French Polynesia,and "Rag in the Air" net from Tonga to New Caledonia.In New Caledonia our transmission stopped working due to a defect teleoptic cable(only on these Icom models),but a new one was brought from Sweden and replaced in New Zealand.The M-800 was a small series and is not produced anymore.Having a SSB radio can definitely be recomended,and Icom stations seems to be "golden standard" when dealing with this kind of equipment.
