After a week of preparation Tarita is ready for ships delivery to the
Caribbean. The last round in the South Pacific is at an end.During the two
months here, we have sailed some 500Nm which has been a good seatrial of
Tarita after the refit, and in front of the North Atlantic
passage.Everything is working well onboard and the only thing we have
problems with is the watermaker(after my annual service with o-rings and
gaskets, it doesn´t work anymore). It has been sent to Katadyn in Auckland
for repair.
New Zealand is a very maritime nation and the vast majority of boating is
located from Bay of Islands down to Bay of plenty(around 150 Nm).Next area
popular for boating and further south is the Marlborough Sounds (on the
north tip of the south island).Lot´s of cruisers leave their yachts up in
Northland(not even going down to the Hauraki Gulf and Auckland),and prefer
to see NZ by car instead. My experience from sailing NZ so far is mainly
positive, with easy navigation, and good maritime services. The weather is
unpredictable but with an excellent forecastservice.I would like to return
some day and keep on to the South Island. We will see what future has...
Good bye NZ
