After an another beautiful night on the ocean we saw Lifou in the Loyalty Islands after sunrise.Finding the harbour in We ("Way") was easy but the entrance is very narrow and a sort of Zig-Zag manouver is necessary to enter the very small marina. This is not a place to approach in heavy tradewinds or in darkness.
So the sail from Fiji to here has been all you can ask for which was very good for John who did his first oceanpassage. The stopover in Vanuatu gave more taste for this islandgroup(former New Hebrides),with high lush "djungleislands"and melanesians very much living like "old times".New Caledonia is different,French and a lot more developed than other islandgroups in the South Pacific. This is also the last islandgroup in the band of South Pacific "paradiseislands"among cruisers known as the "Coconut milkrun".This leaves me with a feeling of melancholy. Is this the beginning of the end of the "South Pacific dream".............
