Day 25 (Sunday) Jan 08, 2012
This was another travel day and we got started after having the breakfast.
We were on our way down to Blackpool to visit Shirley’s cousin, Bryan and
his wife, Lynn. On the way, we stopped in Lancaster, and visited the
castle located there. On the way, Shirley wanted me to see the Roman ruins
at Hard Knott Pass,(54:24’33.57”N 03:08’15.28”W) and Wrynose Pass
(54:24’59.21”N 03:06’36.65”W). Elevation 1650 ft. +/-. It was cloudy,
rainy, windy and did I mention cold. The road, if one can call it that,
had grades of 30% and higher. The car was having some difficulty getting
up some of the grades. The cloud level was very low and we stayed in a
mist the entire time on the road. This is a one lane road with two way
traffic. There were some wide spots that two cars could pass at one time.
It was a white knuckle ride but worth the stress. The driver didn’t think
so!! Well, we got to the bottom and arrived in Lancaster as noted above.
We arrived in Blackpoole around dark and heavy drinking was required. We
did stop in a pub in Lancaster, for coffee and tea, where Shirley
unfortunately left the cell phone. We arrived at Shirley’s cousins and
went to dinner. A cab ride was in order.
